Artists Daniel Popper to Unveil “Lumen” Sculpture at Society Wynwood

Iconic New Sculpture is a Bold Artistic Landmark in Miami’s Arts District, Celebrated During Miami Art Week on December 4

World-renowned, multidisciplinary artist Daniel Popper is set to unveil his latest installation, Lumen during a special Miami Art Week event at Society Wynwood on Wednesday, December 4, 2024. The 30-foot sculpture, covered entirely in cracked tile mosaic, will remain permanently in the 2nd Ave entryway of Society Wynwood, a dynamic mixed-use apartment community located in the heart of Miami’s vibrant Wynwood Arts District.

The event will feature a ribbon-cutting ceremony with Daniel Popper and national development firm PMG, followed by a pop-up light mapping activation. The light mapping will transform Lumen into a dynamic, interactive experience, with vibrant projections that bring the sculpture to life. The ribbon event is free and open to the public from 7:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. The light mapping activation will run every 15 minutes throughout the evening.

“This piece is deeply inspired by Wynwood’s vibrant history and creative spirit, with organic, vine-like structures symbolizing the hidden energy and resilience beneath the city’s surface,” said Daniel Popper. “The name ‘Lumen’ reflects those unseen connections—like the internal channels in plants—that are essential yet often overlooked. By day, the cracked tile mosaic will highlight the handmade quality, while at night, projection mapping will bring it to life, blending traditional craftsmanship with digital innovation. It’s an honor to contribute to the artistic legacy of Wynwood, a place that has inspired me and so many others.”

Daniel Popper is best known for his larger-than-life sculptures and immersive public art installations. Popper has created awe-inspiring works for major music festivals such as Electric Forest (USA), Boom Festival (Portugal), and Rainbow Serpent (Australia), blending art, technology, and music in large-scale, interactive experiences. His innovative approach extends beyond the festival scene, having completed corporate commissions for Siemens and MTN, including the iconic Tree of Wisdom sculpture at the Nelson Mandela School of Science and Technology. Popper continues to shape the future of public art with upcoming projects in Miami and beyond.

“We’re always looking for ways to bring both local and international artists into our residential developments, creating spaces that celebrate creativity and culture,” said Ryan Shear, Managing Partner at PMG. “Society Wynwood is especially unique, because it’s located in the heart of Miami’s Arts District, making it the ideal place for Daniel Popper’s latest piece, Lumen. This event adds an extra layer of energy and excitement to Miami’s annual celebration of the arts.”
