Named for the Latin word denoting breath and life, Anima gestures to both the metaphysical world of the spirit and the interior world of the self, and speaks to animism, the belief that all things resonate with an animated force.
Anima also references Carl Jung’s concept of the anima, which signifies the unconscious feminine within the psyche. “Wherever she appears in dreams, phantasies or visions, she appears personified,” Jung writes. “She is not an invention of the conscious, but a spontaneous production of the unconscious.”
Anima is one such a personification – a goddess of his own invention. In the palm of her hand, she holds a mountain of plants that she looks poised to blow out around her, as if to spread the seeds – and with them, perhaps, the knowledge of the divine feminine.
