At 12m tall, Popper’s Boom Shaman is immediately distinctive, and in addition to its size is among his most embellished works. A feature created as a guardian for Boom Festival’s Dance Temple, it created a site for relaxation and pause – along with a visual feast of projection mapping by Wayne Ellis in the evening.

These figures are constructed from salvaged material – wood, bamboo and rope – creating organic textures, and made to be one with the landscape rather than being built to last. Fittingly, these shamans invite their audience to become better attuned not just to their own souls but also to the landscape and the deep cosmos. The adorned totems establish a sacred environment for ceremonies and rituals, serving as a gathering place where individuals can connect not only with their fellow humans but also with the natural and metaphysical realms.
