“Building large-scale public art is no small feat—it’s an adventure, filled with risks, challenges, and breakthroughs. With LUMEN, my latest piece at Society Wynwood, my team and I embarked on one of the most ambitious projects yet. From the initial concept and design to fabrication, engineering, and finally installation, we handled every step ourselves, pushing new boundaries with an experimental cracked-tile mosaic surface finish,” Daniel Popper shared on Instagram.

This project took a full year to bring to life, and the final installation – starting at 3 AM each day to navigate road access – was truly unforgettable. When the installation was finally unveiled, the energy in Wynwood was palpable.
The intricate mosaic reflected the first light of dawn, casting a kaleidoscope of colors that brought people together. Popper’s dedication, combined with the teamwork of Samuel Murgatroyd, Rob Bernicchi, Luke Christie-smith, Jessica Correia, Casey Waterman, Makoto Iwagishi, River Keller, and Jonx Pillemer, transformed every challenge into a triumph. These talented individuals came together, each contributing their unique skills, to bring this vision to life.

The space became a vibrant hub of creativity, with projection mapping and dynamic animations adding an extra layer to the artwork. Marc Aptakin and his incredible team from Mad Arts Space worked on the projection mapping, Wayne Visual created stunning content, and Melissa Sweredoski from Levy Communications captured the event with such skill and enthusiasm.
